Interior of a modern building featuring a large swimming pool. The ceiling is composed of an intricate geometric pattern with numerous square and rectangular acoustic panels. Natural light floods the space through floor-to-ceiling windows, which are evenly spaced along the walls. Red spherical flags hang at intervals across the pool, adding a pop of colour to the predominantly white and grey tones of the room.

Swimming pool in Michalovce is now safer

High-quality room acoustics in the form of reduced noise, echoes and better speech intelligibility have demonstrably positive effects on physical and mental health. However, it can also do more. For example, to save a life.
In the swimming pool area, it is necessary to solve the acoustics not only for the sake of user comfort, but especially for the sake of safety. Swimmers need to hear the lifeguard and he/she needs to hear them.

This is why the city of Michalovce in eastern Slovakia decided to use our acoustic ceilings when renovating the swimming pool. These, in addition to ensuring good intelligibility of speech, allow spaces, including ceilings, to be regularly and easily disinfected and thus keep everything clean and hygienic.

The city opened the swimming pool to the public in August 2024 after a two-year renovation. Visitors to the municipal swimming pool can now enjoy a renovated 25-metre swimming pool with six lanes. The facility also includes pools for children and people with physical disabilities as well as saunas and relaxation areas.
