Renovation of the Svanemølle barracks

In October 2024, we were approached by Skou Gruppen with an exciting task – the renovation of Svanemølle Royal Danish Defence. The project presented significant acoustic challenges, particularly in the stairwells and the historical canteen building, which we needed to address.

Together with the architect and contractor, we explored various options and adjustments based on the architect’s requirements. Through close collaboration, we developed the final acoustic solutions.

  • Stairwells: We installed Ecophon Master™ F in the ceilings and Ecophon Akusto™ Wall A wall absorbers, which significantly reduce reverberation and improve the building’s acoustic environment.
  • Canteen building: This part of the project was more challenging, but we found the right solution. In the high-ceilinged area, we installed Master F between the rafters, while in the lower-ceilinged section, we opted for Ecophon Akusto™ Wall C in the ceiling. The result was a significant improvement in speech intelligibility and a reduced noise level.
  • Offices and meeting rooms: To enhance better acoustics and at the same time add a visual element, we installed Ecophon Clipso™ So Aero acoustic panels in frames.

Together with the architect, we chose custom made images from defense exercises on acoustic fabric mounted on aluminum frames. The result is both a beautiful aesthetic solution and a significant improvement in the acoustic conditions.

The improvements made the canteen a preferred choice – rather than something to avoid:

"We have received very positive feedback from the users. The project has improved the acoustics and made the canteen a pleasant place to be," says Benedicte Oredson Krone, Project and Construction Manager.

It has been a fantastic collaboration, and we are proud to have contributed to creating a better sound environment for everyone using the Svanemølle barracks.
